Looks very horrific-cool, ty for mention. I might wanna try it, even if permanent world..eww. That's a reason why I'm currently loving Rusty Hearts, only non-instanced thing is town (plus it's enough gothic and story-driven).

EDIT: nvm I've only now seen that with permanent they meant just towns O.o and apparentl I can convince nobody t try it cause it's "yet another diablo clone" <.< I feel segregated for never playing Diablo ever.

There's so many 'Diablo clones' out there, and I never played Diablo either .

I started with Sacred 1 + 2, then Torchlight and PoE. Torchlight was ok but I hate the graphics. Sacred and PoE were perfect for me. They require an awful lot of gear grinding, but then that's the nature of the game.

To the last post on the first page, GW2 won't die out. Most people from GW1 enjoy it as do I, and lots of people from other traditional MMOs. However its left a huge gap that will now never be filled - another game like GW1.

Oh I liked Sacred too (only the first, the second didn't attract me at all) but I played it as offline single-player (so no mmo flavour) and I think what I liked the most were thombstones and humor i general Anyway I've read more about PoE and the 100 lvls part scares me as I hate grind and I like lvling fast...and it talks about "taking a year or more to max" or something..ugh =|

Anyway imho Diablo style is different from GW, very. It's another good style but still different, as you said the game won't be filled.

PoE looks cool, if a bit too similar to D2 in style. Thanks, didn't know about it.

I just noticed Torchlight 2 was finally announced as well. It was supposed to be launching in Summer 2012, Steam also had a preorder promotion, then nothing. Just checked the official website and saw it's coming out on 09/20.

Looking forward to this, even tough I'm unconvinced by the new classes. Might well give it a try, I liked TL1 even tough I quit it relatively soon. It was simple yet enjoyable, and modding really helped longevity.

You imagine if WoW went free how many customers they would lose.I tried LoTR and it isn't bad went it went free and a lot of old subscribers came back.

Erm, if WoW went free they would automatically lose every single customer because none of them would be paying anymore? Hero deep.

This was one of the reasons why GW2 kept me from buying it. I specifically wanted a game where I control who I play with. I have absolutely no interest in persistent worlds.

What do you mean?btw the game similar to GW is Star Trek Online which in replace of heros you got Bridge Officers instead and can do missions alone.

However GW2 isn't just a graphical upgraded version of GW1, but it has different gameplay and therefor feels like a totally different game. Even though Anet warned us bout it, there are people who didn't realise this to the fullest and are dissapointed or, they did realise but doesn't like the directions.

GW1 was/is a game that is unique and very good, but the lements you like, might not be the elements I liked. So to give you a good answer to your underlaying question I would like to know what elements made gw great for you?

I like 80-90% of GW2, there are some minor gameplay aspects I find irritating, but with a bit of finetuning that can be changed and are not game-fun breaking for me (the downed status is not what I expected of it cause its just a near form of death instead of a near form of alive). I liked the calm of the Tyria landscape however and I'm pleasaantly surprised that they maintained that not only in the starter area's but also further on. The shiverpeaks are as stunning as Eye of the North promised and Ascalon is slowly recovering from the seering and restoring to it's old pre-seering state (besides the dragonbrand that is stunning in its destruction, but not in a postseering ascalonian way but in a realm of torment kind of way). The lore in the game is great and just those two elements where what I was hoping for.

In the end reading a gw1 forum with mostly reactions of dissapointed people is the wrong place to decide if GW2 is your game. Either watch the game on youtube or wait for a trial or take a deep plunge and buy it.
Even those who like in though, would generally agree it is in fact nothing like gw1, which does seem to be what he wants.
At this point, gw2 could have any other name, it wouldn't make a difference.

As Arenanet has stated many many times, GW2 is very different then GW1. My point is that basing your opinion wether it is a good game or a bad game would not be the number one GW1 community forum after the release of GW2. The reason is that the most people who think both are a good game moved on.

In both my guilds (got two accounts in separate guilds), bout 90% off the people are saying either 3 or 4 weeks offline (depending on wether they had prerealease access). So even though there are dissapointed people like the OP (wich is not a problem, people can come to the conclusion that GW2 isn't a game for them), I come to the conclusion that it is pretty successfull. The people who like it mostly have moved on to the GW2 community (and more likely the official forum, not going to give my opinion bout GW2guru here again) cause, as you said, both games are very different.

Judging how well liked GW2 is by how few people are playing GW1 is a pretty bad metric.

Default Need a game like guild wars

I think this is the right place to post this, if not i apologize mods and thank you in advance for moving it!

I know that I am not alone in saying that GW1 was one of the best games that I have ever played. Now there were many reasons for this, but the main being that it is unlike any other mmorpg that I know of out there. The ideas of map travel, towns, areas that were customized to you each time, are just some of countless. I don't know about everyone else, but when they announced GW2 I was looking forward to essentially the same style game just with new graphics, a new world, a new storyline, but the essential parts of what separated GW from the rest of the mmorpgs still there. Unfortunately, in my opinion they completely trashed what made the game unique and went for the more traditional style of mmorpg.

My main point: If there is a game similar to GW1 out there that I don't know about, PLEASE, someone let me know. If there isn't, then some game company out there has an amazing opportunity, and needs to capitalize on Anet's mistake that is GW2 and make a game with the same idea of GW1.

Missions, outposts, elite areas, dungeons, customized maps, parties, quests, mini quests.

When I log onto GW now I just get sad remembering the amazing times that I had playing this game. I met a lot of really cool people, some that I am still friends with to this very day, and I would love to continue this in the same type of game, but unfortunately GW2 just is not for me.

Can't think of any game like Guild Wars. Hopefully Guild Wars 3 will be like the new Counter-Strike where it goes back to being like the original, but with more and better everything.
How do you know there will be a GW3?

@rotaulave
You better hope it doesn't fail or it might be the end of the franchise.

Hey look I am not going to tell everyone to eat McDonald's burger's, because I find them better than any other burger I have encountered. Its my preference.

To end the debate of which is better gw2 and gw1 this thread the thoughts here are opinion based. Everyone has their preference of which is better.

To me GW2 is better than grinding for gear dumbed down Diablo 3, shooter-games, and WoW. The reasons why I say that Gw2 may look dumbed down to Gw1, but I prefer the dumbed down skills (But secretley I miss the skill style for the 1,2,3,4 keys in GW1 more variety). I love the graphics 5/5, gameplay 5/5, combat style 4/5, lvling system 10/5, crafting style 4/5, gem to gold mechanism 4/5, but I am not pleased with the banking and inventory mechanisms. Overall I like it. Their are minor improvements that can be done.

-edit-
When I first looked at GW2 I thought it looked disgusting. But you know what they say an ugly ride can turn into a fun one.
